Cola drinks or soft drinks, as they are commonly known as, are the most widely-consumed form of carbonated beverage. People love cola drinks for its fizzy effect and tangy taste. It is also an affordable drink that is readily available through vending machine. So, people love it more than just a drink as it is both tingling and cheap. However, carbonated beverages have been regarded as serious threat to human health. Earlier studies have shown that cola drinks pose risks on humans. Nonetheless, it has become a part of lives so much that we cannot afford to miss a day without a cola drink.

It Increases Obesity
Cola drinks and obesity have a deep rooted connection which has been validated by various studies in the past. According to recent studies, it has been concluded that drinking cola drink leads to ½ kg of weight every month. Another study revealed that consuming cola drinks on daily basis increases chances of liver fat by 132%-142%. Another study suggested that regular consumption of cola drink raises skeleton fat by 117%-221%, while it grows organ fats and blood fats by 30%. In another interesting study, it was concluded that cola drink increases 11% of cholesterol levels. A can of soda is equal to 39 pounds of sugar in a year.

Cola Drinks Affect Bone Density
Consumption of cola drinks has been linked to weakening of bones. Carbonated beverages are made of phosphoric and citric acid that act as an agent for extracting calcium from bones. The presence of acid in soda drinks is another concern as it reduces the bone density which in turn leads to osteoporosis. When acid reacts with calcium, it excretes the calcium through urine.

Teeth Damage
There have been several studies carried out in the past which demonstrates that cola drinks reduce the enamel from teeth. Similar to bone damage, carbonated drinks process the same mechanism on teeth. By drinking larger portions of cola drinks, we put our teeth at the receiving ends of acid agent that erode the enamel from our teeth.

It Produces Kidney Stones
Too much consumption of cola drink is hazardous to human health. According to a research conducted by American Society of Nephrology, it is concluded that cola drinks increases the chance of kidney stone by 23%. This is because when we drink cola drink, our body consumes the calcium from bones which is then filtered through the kidney and deposited there in the form of stones.

It Causes Diabetes
As carbonated water contributes to weight gain, it is directly responsible for increasing the chances of diabetes. When our body retains more fat, it affects our ability to process sugar which in turn triggers diabetes in our body. When we drink cola drink, it increases the blood sugar in our body after twenty minutes. This in turn causes our liver to convert sugar into fat. The residual effect of this process then causes the liver to increase more sugar in the blood. People who consume on daily basis cola drinks have 80% more chances of developing type 2 diabetes.
